Posted: 3rd December 2014

The Society for Back Pain Research (SBPR) is pleased to offer a number of Travel Fellowships to its members for 2016.

CLOSING DATE 16 DECEMBER 2016

Aims of the travelling fellow ship awards

The fellowships aim to promote collaboration, best practice, enable members to develop their academic / research knowledge and skills as well as support the development and/or conduct of research.

Scope

SBPR are keen to promote innovative applications that fulfill the aim of the fellowships and further the objects of the Society: “to promote the study of pain in the back (which shall include the neck) and to stimulate research into the causes, prevention, and treatment of pain in the back”.
SBPR recognise that several schemes already exist that provide travelling fellowships which focus on surgical interventions and related activity and as such SBPR fellowships must focus on non-surgical activity.

United Kingdom Spine Societies Board (UKSSB) who fund the fellowships include the following objectives that align with SBPR’s aims:

• To foster and encourage instruction, training and research in spinal disorders
• To promote and facilitate the dissemination of information on spinal disorders, including meetings, courses, research and publications.
• To encourage co-operation between national organisations with interests in spinal disorders.
• To promote international collaboration in the field of spinal disorders.

Funding

The fellowships are funded by the United Kingdom Spine Societies Board (UKSSB) which represents the British Association of Spine Surgeons, British Scoliosis Society and SBPR. The Board included representatives of the British Orthopaedic Association and the Society of British Neurological Surgeons.
SBPR anticipates awarding several fellowships. A single award will be no more than £5000.
